CCAD Secures a Win at their 2014 Season Opener
Monday, April 21, 2014 - FRESNO

All that glittered out on the track was indeed black and gold for the ladies of Central California Area Derby who pulled through with a 168 to 112 win against Valley Heat Roller Derby on the evening of Saturday April 19th.

The tension was thick out on the track and the seats were full of eager Central Valley roller derby fans as CCAD, made up of local skaters from Fresno, Merced, Madera, and surrounding areas, lined up to play their first home bout of the season against Valley Heat Roller Derby, boasting skaters from Tulare, Hanford, and Fresno to really make it an all-valley event. Many of the skaters being long time opponents, old friends, and even past teammates made for a match up that was as much mental as it was physical.

CCAD showed signs of bout day jitters and they were off to a slow start in the beginning of the first half. But as the adrenaline settled, the instincts and hard work put in over the weeks leading up to the bout began to take effect. CCAD's walls of blockers started to slow down Valley Heat's worthy jammers, and they began inching their way toward the lead. As the game progressed the ladies in black and gold continued to hold strong walls and make holes for their jammers. All of the skaters of this Fresno based roller derby team and looking forward to what is to come, and especially playing against CCAD veterans when they face-off with Fresno Derby Alliance on May 31st.

CCAD Rolls for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness
Friday April 18, 2014 - FRESNO

Last Saturday, April 12th, CCAD laced up their skates took to the streets of Fig Garden Village to skate in the MS Walk to honor of those with Multiple Sclerosis in the Fresno, and Central Valley community. Our guest of honor, giving us a run for our money in her wheelchair, was Jordan. Jordan is 28 and was diagnosed with MS in 2010. “All my attacks have only occurred because of lack of medicine,” Jordan says, stressing the importance of continuing treatment and therapy once you are diagnosed. That’s where the MS Walk comes in. The money raised from those who participate goes back to more than 19,000 people like Jordan who live with MS in our community. That funding supports life-changing programs and cutting-edge research. With the help of programs like this Jordan is working on getting out of her wheelchair and back on her feet!

This is why it is our great pleasure to be donating a part of the proceeds from our April 19th season opener to the MS Walk. We hope to see everyone out at The Slab for the bout and then over to Full Circle Brewery right next door for the after party! Doors open at 4 and the bout begins at 5. Help us support the MS Walk and inspirations like Jordan.

2014: A New Season and a New Look for CCAD
Sunday March 16, 2014 - FRESNO

2013 was a long year for the members of CCAD and by the end it felt as though the time was right to open a new chapter. At their first meeting of the year, league members voted that it was in the best interest of the league to condense into one single team, unified under the name of Central California Area Derby, proudly sporting black and gold. The league remains skater owned and operated and is coming together like never before in attempts to bring bigger, brighter things to the roller derby community in the Central Valley. It is hoped that the long-adored teams Atomic Assault and Rock n Rolla will make a comeback in the future of CCAD as the league grows and matures in its new form.
