All that glittered out on the track was indeed black and gold for the ladies of Central California Area Derby who pulled through with a 168 to 112 win against Valley Heat Roller Derby on the evening of Saturday April 19th.
The tension was thick out on the track and the seats were full of eager Central Valley roller derby fans as CCAD, made up of local skaters from Fresno, Merced, Madera, and surrounding areas, lined up to play their first home bout of the season against Valley Heat Roller Derby, boasting skaters from Tulare, Hanford, and Fresno to really make it an all-valley event. Many of the skaters being long time opponents, old friends, and even past teammates made for a match up that was as much mental as it was physical.
CCAD showed signs of bout day jitters and they were off to a slow start in the beginning of the first half. But as the adrenaline settled, the instincts and hard work put in over the weeks leading up to the bout began to take effect. CCAD's walls of blockers started to slow down Valley Heat's worthy jammers, and they began inching their way toward the lead. As the game progressed the ladies in black and gold continued to hold strong walls and make holes for their jammers. All of the skaters of this Fresno based roller derby team and looking forward to what is to come, and especially playing against CCAD veterans when they face-off with Fresno Derby Alliance on May 31st.
